Although Revo offers some of the most substantial performance gains available, peak figures don't give a true indication of vehicle performance and are never the sole focus during development. The ST's impressive low-down grunt and more responsive turbo offer great performance and a lot of potential for those driven to experience its true potential. Close monitoring of the GPF system has been an essential step in finding the limitations and tuning potential of the engines. The consensus is that the GPF not only mutes but limits the engine power, Revo ECU calibration might offer a reason to dispute that.  Enhancing the vehicle with Revo ECU Software gives you much more than just an increase in power and torque. A large part of development is based on drive cycle and driver feedback.  Our calibration doesn’t just give a great dyno curve and peak power/torque figures but also delivers in feel; giving a smoother yet more responsive feel at low RPM/ partial throttle. Our Stage 2 GPF software retains the stock downpipe, factory catalytic convertor and GPF 3, although we did upgrade the GPF back section on our own ST development vehicle to give more exhaust acoustics.   Whilst we are not supporting GPF removal, over months of extensive development, we tested all variations of exhaust setups to determine the effects and restrictions of the stock downpipe and GPF. Although an exhaust system with no Catalytic convertor or GPF is always going to be slightly less restrictive than a stock system, we saw less than a 4% difference through a limited part of the rev range with little change elsewhere. There is a much more significant restriction closer to the engine; a combination of the integral manifold/port/turbine design.  All Revo Stage 2 GPF software is specifically designed for a Stock downpipe and GPF. When you first start your car, the cold oil is at its thickest, producing higher oil pressure when pumped around the engine putting extra pressure on oil seals. As the engine temperature increases, so do oil temperatures. This thins the oil, enabling it to run more freely and better lubricate the moving parts of your engine. Cold Start Protection helps protect engine components by limiting turbo boost based on RPM and oil temperature until it reaches the 80ºC optimum operating level.  TEMPERATURE PROTECTION Exhaust gas temperatures (EGT) are also monitored, adapting the operating conditions (Air Fuel Ratio) to ensure they stay within safe parameters. If EGT's reach a set upper limit, then power is automatically reduced until the engine returns to a safe operating temperature.  EXHAUST OVERRUN The ST already comes with exhaust overrun through its Active Value Exhaust. This has been enhanced by Revo offering a variation in acoustics both in sports and track modes. The duration of the overrun has been increased over Stage 1 software.     SWITCHABLE SOFTWARE1 Using an SPS switch you can take advantage of the switch-ability of Revo software. The 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (0GC) was derived from the advanced development of the previous 7-speed gearboxes, such as the DQ380 (ODE) and DQ500 (0BT), which had been used in commercial vehicles from 2010 and passenger vehicles since 2011. One key feature of the DQ381 gearbox was principally aimed at increasing efficiency. Unlike the DQ380 gearbox, the DQ381 was designed to be used in both FWD and all-wheel drive vehicles on the MQB chassis platform, such as the Mk7 Golf  R, Audi S3, SQ2 and Cupra Ateca.  This 7-speed wet clutch gearbox is already an improvement over the previous DQ250 6-speed, in terms of allowing the vehicle to shift more efficiently, and with a smother gearchange due to the closer gear ratios. However, driving a DQ381 equipped vehicle you will know that there are still areas that can be improved, especially on performance modes. With the stock calibration, you may find that gear shifts happen too low in the RPM range, or too high when in sports mode. It wasn't that long ago the VW Group had a 1.8T engine as the sporty powerplant for their mid-size family hatch/saloon offerings, however with a few years of 2.0T engines available in various power outputs the current 1.8TSI engine is often looked upon as the 'non-performance' option. We tend to disagree with that viewpoint, this is a great engine with a lot of untapped potentials. We've been working on calibration for this 1.8TSI in several regions with varying climatic conditions and have had the pleasure of experiencing it in all of the vehicle variants. These latest MQB chassis vehicles are typically lighter than previous versions, making them feel a little more spritely to start with. Out of the box, the RS3 demands attention and respect, and rightly so. With 400PS and 480NM torque, an incredible 5 cylinder soundtrack, less weight than the previous model and impressive acceleration times, all the right ingredients are there. Revo ECU Software unleashes the cars full potential and boasts a staggeringly impressive 490PS and 590NM torque, that’s +90PS and +110NM more torque than it rolled out of the factory with. Intensively tested and refined over twelve months, throttle response has been dialled in to give the driver a deeper sense of connection and involvement with the car, something the stock model seems to lack. Rather than being pulled, the hike in torque gives the feeling of a firm push from the bottom of your back, and it’s addictive. The car now begs to be driven hard, it’s now able to break traction in corners, and dares you to bury your right foot. Optimised power delivery and with much more torque at its disposal, you can now drop below 4000rpm and still pull hard out of any corner without hesitation. 2.5 TFSI ENGINE A common issue shared with the pre-facelift 8v RS3, the 2.5TFSI is extremely sensitive to heat and fuel quality. Initial stages of Revo’s Software development process involve pushing the engine harder than usual to find limitations and restrictions. The team found that running more power and torque offered no improvements in acceleration times, negatively affecting the cars ability to consistently perform. Exhaust gas temperatures (EGT) were found to reach up to 960ºC when stock, this highlighted the importance of monitoring EGT’s to avoid risking exhaust catalyst (CAT) and engine failure. Revo Performance ECU Software for the TTRS & RS3 not only utilises the factory safety functions but actually improves them. SERIAL PORT SWITCH (SPS) Switchable software for fuel quality and low boost options.   GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME It all started in late May 2017 in Surberg, Germany when Revos calibration team got their hands on the latest Audi 5 cylinder engine, labelled DAZA by Audi. By travelling to Germany, Revo was able to get a head start on the re-engineering of this platform and get a feel for the potential of this as a performance package going forwards. Based on this initial assessment, Revo ordered their own 8S TTRS whilst continuing development through the Global Development Programme. Over a year in development, covering over 25,000 miles globally on both the RS3 and TTRS which share the 2.5TFSI engine, testing was carried out on 3 vehicles in the UK and 12 vehicles in 6 continents. Involving vehicles in Germany, Croatia, Malta, Australia, Peru, Russia, South Africa, China, Brazil and Mexico, Only Revo operate a Global Development Programme through their network of over 400 Revo Authorised Dealers worldwide. Access to vehicles on this scale enables the calibration team to fine-tune products before release, testing products in a wide range of climatic conditions including at altitude, with varying fuel quality and increased humidity. This also allows Revo to test how the Software performs in different driving scenarios including the drag-strip, track and sprint racing and of course, daily driving.   POWER GRAPHS   PERFORMANCE TIMES Performance testing was carried out in Malta with an ambient temperature of 20ºC. 2018 Audi RS3 with DSG transmission.
